USA look to upset Brazil in Confederations Cup final

Posted 26 Jun 2009

A ‘go-for-broke’ attitude could propel the USA to one of the biggest upset wins in international soccer when they take on Brazil in the Confederations Cup final in South Africa on Sunday.

Legendz has the USA as a +700 underdog and Brazil a -285 favorite in Soccer Betting Odds.

The United States team’s 2-0 win over Spain has been described as gutsy and several similar adjectives have been bandied about however luck played a good part in their elevation to the final.

They lost their first two matches of the tournament, Italy (3-1) and Brazil (3-0) and needed to beat African champions Egypt by three goals while relying on Brazil beating Italy by the same score. That of course happened however they still needed to sneak past Spain by two goals, which they did.

The rest as they say, is history and now a team of players brought together from teams right across Europe and even a player from the Mexican league, will tackle the likes of Kaka and Robinho, genuine stars of international football.

It could be argued the USA were awestruck when they played Brazil in their first match losing 3-0 but that should be rightly attributed to the free-flowing genius of Brazil, the current Confederations Cup holders and equal most winningness team with France.

As much as the USA will like to try and play attacking football, they will have to take a defensive formation into the match to cope with a Brazil midfield adept at feeding their forwards ball in the open.
