College Football Bowl Games: St. Petersburg Bowl

Central Florida Knights (+2.5) @ Rutgers Scarlet Knights (-2.5) (Over/Under 44.5)

(Saturday, 8 pm ET, ESPN)

Central Florida went 8-4 on the season, finishing 2nd in Conference USA’s East Standings right behind East Carolina. Central Florida was 9-2 ATS on the season, 4-6 O/U, and finished the year by winning 5 of their last 6 and covering each of their last 4.

After scoring 30+ points just twice over their first 9 games, they put up 34+ in each of their last 3 contests. UCF out-rushed their opponents in each of their last 6 games, and finished 6-1 on the season when rushing for more yards than their opponent. The Knights give up just under 21 points per game while scoring just over 16 per contest. CFU was 6-1 at home, and while this game is supposedly played at a “neutral location”, CFU should have a little home field advantage in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Rutgers also went 8-4 on the season, finishing 4th in the Big East behind Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia. The Scarlet Knights were 6-6 ATS, 4-8 O/U, and lost 2 of their last 3 games, including their worst loss of the season, a 13-31 egg at Syracuse. Rutgers was 6-3 ATS over their final 9 games. They were 4-1 SU and ATS on the road this season.  Rutgers averages 27.5 per game while giving up 17.4.

Rutgers has been out-rushed in 5 of their last 7 games, and 6 times this season. In all four of their losses, the Scarlet Knights have been out-gained on the ground. This game boasts two tough defenses, a couple talented playmakers on each side, and a tough home team playing in their home state against a tough road team. It should be a good one.
