California, Utah meet in Poinsettia Bowl

The Poinsettia Bowl features a clash between the California Golden Bears and the No. 23 Utah Utes on Wednesday (8 pm ET, ESPN).

California is a 3-point favorite and the over/under total at 52 in Football Odds at Legends.

These teams have met only twice in the past 10 years. Each has won once, straight up and against the spread. The last time they squared off was 2003, when Utah won 31-24 as a 1-point home underdog, and the score just barely made it over the total of 54.

In their last action, the Utes lost 26-23 to the Brigham Young Cougars in OT. Utah covered as an 8.5-point road underdog while the final score went under the 56.5-point total.

The Golden Bears finished their regular season with a 42-10 loss to Pac-10 rival Washington Huskies at Husky Stadium in Week 14. Washington covered as 6.5-point home underdogs while the final score played under the 57.5-point total.

When playing in December the Utes are 6-2 SU while the Golden Bears are 7-3 SU.
When playing outside the conference the Utes are 9-1 SU and the Golden Bears are also 9-1 SU.

Utah was 9-3 SU and 5-7 ATS this season while California was 8-4 SU and 5-6 ATS.

Utah is 22-3 SU in its last 25 games, and the total has gone under in seven of Utah’s last nine games.

California is 11-4 SU in its last 15 games but just 2-4 ATS in its last six games.
