Friars could get fried against No. 18 Pittsburgh Panthers
The Providence Friars will have their hands full when they visit the No. 18 Pittsburgh Panthers in a Big East matchup on Thursday (9 pm ET, ESPN2).
Pitt is an 11-point favorite and the over/under is 149.5 in College Basketball Betting at Legends sportsbook.
Pittsburgh has dominated straight up over the past nine meetings, going 8-1 SU, but is just 4-5 ATS over that span.
This is the first meeting of the season. The Friars’ only win in the past nine came on Feb. 24 last season, as they managed an 81-73 home-court victory. The Panthers were upset as 9-point road favorites and the score went under the total.
In its last game, Providence was beaten 99-93 by South Florida Bulls. The Friars were 6-point underdogs and the score went over the total of 153.5. Sharaud Curry and Jamine Peterson had 26 points for Providence in the loss.
Pittsburgh, which many feel could make some noise during March Madness, avoided an upset against St. John’s, winning 71-64 at Madison Square Garden Saturday afternoon. Pittsburgh covered as a 2-point road favorite while the final score went over the 121.5-point total.
Providence is 12-16 SU and 9-14-1 ATS, and has lost eight straight games.
Pittsburgh is 22-7 SU and 15-9-2 ATS, and is fourth in the Big East with an 11-5 SU record, 3.5 games back of the conference-leading No. 1 Syracuse Orange.
There is a significant over trend, as the total has gone over in six of the last seven meetings overall, and in four of the past five at Pittsburgh.
