NCAA Tournament: Villanova Wildcats a dark horse?

The Villanova Wildcats aren’t exactly rolling into the 2010 NCAA Tournament – but that doesn’t mean they won’t make some noise.

The Wildcats (24-7 SU, 18-12 ATS) have lost five of their past seven games, but they managed to grab the 2nd seed in the South region after a strong performance throughout the season in Big East conference action.

After reaching the Final Four last season, Villanova could be a dark horse this March Madness and go deeper than most think they will.

Thanks to the second seed, the Wildcats have what should be relatively easy game in the opening round Thursday, facing the Robert Morris Colonials (23-11 SU, 3-3 ATS), which is seeded 15th in the tournament for a second straight year (12:30 pm ET, CBS).

NCAA Tournament Betting Odds have the Wildcats as 18.5-point favorites.

In the Wildcats’ last game, Corey Stokes scored 22 points for Villanova in its 80-76 loss to Marquette in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals at Madison Square Garden on Thursday.

Villanova was upset as 5-point favorites and the score went over the 140-point total.

Robert Morris’ last game was a 52-50 win over Quinnopiac last Wednesday, as a 5-point underdog.

Villanova is 18-7 SU in its last 25 games, and the total has gone over in 17 of its past 25 games.
