NFL Betting: Colts at Packers

Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy revealed that QB Peyton Manning’s offseason injuries involved not just one, but two knee surgeries on an infected bursa sac (perhaps the most disgusting thing ever written in this blog) before he returned to training camp.

Manning isn’t too pleased that his ailments are now public. The eight-time pro bowler says he didn’t want opposing defenses to know his weakness. I always thought it was saying ‘no’ to commercials. He also admitted to picking on fresh-off-surgery defensive backs and that he would expect his rivals to do the same with him.

That additional surgery isn’t swaying the money on Indianapolis for this Sunday’s matchup with the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. The public had moved our spread from a pick’em to Colts -2 as of midweek. However, bets on the Packers brought the number back down to -1 ½.

While Manning’s injuries were hush-hush, Indy hasn’t pulled a veil over their depleted running back corps. They announced starting RB Joseph Addai is out two weeks with a bum hamstring, and rookie RB Mike Hart is done for the year after injuring his knee.

That leaves Dungy with veteran Dominic Rhodes and call-up Clifton Dawson in the backfield. Although, these two can’t do much worse than the team’s rushing numbers in the first six weeks of the season.

The Colts are the worst rushing team in the NFL, averaging just over 69 yards per game. They carry the ball for only 3.3 yards per attempt and have mustered just five scores on the ground.

The Colts like to pass. It’s not a big secret. And it looks as if Manning and slumping wide receiver Marvin Harrison are back on track after connecting for 83 yards and two touchdowns against Baltimore last weekend. But now they won’t have the threat of Addai to set up the air attack.

Green Bay’s defense isn’t anything to write home about but it has done a great job shutting down opposing quarterbacks and their targets. The Packers are ranked seventh in pass defense, giving up just under 179 yards per game, and have limited opponents to 54 percent completions.
